Nestled on a secluded coastal peninsula in Scotland, Borradill Retreat is a tranquil escape within a 25-acre private woodland. The retreat comprises two timber lodges, offering guests breath-taking views of moorlands and sea lochs, and an opportunity to reconnect with nature.

In 2023, the retreat underwent a redesign led by designer Claire Mookerjee. Her vision was to create a space that seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape, enhancing the guest experience through thoughtful design. By using natural materials and textures, Mookerjee has successfully brought the outdoors into the heart of the lodges.  

At the core of this transformation is Atkinson & Kirby’ Noma Smoked Oak flooring, which was installed throughout the lodges. Its rich tones and subtle variations of cool, hazy shades make it a sophisticated choice. The oak’s muted Scandinavian look, with pale intonations in a monochrome setting, complements the rugged beauty of the Scottish wilderness while adding warmth and depth to the interiors. The flooring plays a key role in harmonising the interior with the surrounding landscape, creating a natural, cohesive flow between the two.
